STARRING Connie Nielsen\r\nDIRECTOR Susanne Bier\r\nRATED MA15+\r\nOUT Now\r\nRent\r\n\r\nDanish Dogme associate Susanne Bier returns to similar terrain to her digi-drama Open Hearts, examining a family in turmoil. Brothers looks at the effects on a young family after their father is presumed dead in Afghanistan and his wayward brother moves in to help the wife – the radiant Nielsen – come to terms with her loss. Strong performances and scenes of the father’s imprisonment in war camps make for tense viewing, as do his crazy antics upon returning to Denmark, even though it’s blandly shot and a sense of melodrama does creep in. Bier obviously loves the premise: she’s effectively remaking it for her English debut Things We Lost In The Fire, with David Duchovny the dead husband and Benicio del Toro moving in with Halle Berry’s grieving wife.\r\n\r\nDVD EXTRAS None.\r\n\r\nSOPHIE VERLANE
