This was from E! Online...

Andy Hallett, who starred as Lorne ("the Host") on the TV series Angel, died of heart failure last night at age 33, according to his longtime agent and friend Pat Brady. The actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side.

Hallett, from the Cape Cod village of Osterville, Mass., appeared on more than 70 episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff, Angel, between 2000 and 2004. The accomplished actor was also a musician and sang two songs ("Lady Marmalade" and "It's Not Easy Being Green") on the Angel: Live Fast, Die Never soundtrack, released in 2005.

Andy has spent his post-Angel years working on his music career, playing shows around the country. He had been admitted to the hospital three or four times in the past few years for his heart condition, according to Pat.

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends in Cape Cod, most likely over this weekend.:(

Yes jesus christ was 33 when he died...according to popular fiction.

So what Hallet was like 25 when he started on Angel? Shit I thought him much older than that. I remember news of his illness some time back..didn't think it was that serious.

Heart failure at 33? Scary stuff, guess those high notes were hard to reach.

The biggest flaw with 'Angel' was the lack of memorable characters, especially next to 'Buffy'. Characters like Gunn and Connor ended up in the background with nothing to do after a season. Lorne was always a stand-out and had some of the funniest moments. Shame.

A shame to hear of Hallett's death. May he rest in peace.

P.S. In response to G's previous post:

That said, Wesley and Fred were also very good on Angel. Those two, along with Lorne, more than made up for the weakness of characters such as Gunn and Connor.

I'm not dismissing the strong characters, but it never reached the perfect ensemble that Buffy managed more than once (peaking in season 3, of course).

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I'm probably just biased in that i'm totally attracted to Amy Acker and Wesley is my favourite character in the Buffyverse.

Hmm, perhaps once my life is a bit less busy (meaning, once exams are over), I'll start a Buffyverse thread, or make a few posts if there is one already, try to get some discussion going. Those two shows are more than brilliant enough to still be discussed however many years it has been since they ended.

Can't believe Hallett was so young when he died. I too thought he was older when I was watching him in 'Angel'.

I agree with G_shrunk, the only real standout for me in the Angel series was Illyira [wrong spelling, sigh, i know!]. Gun was boring and Fred was fun but kind of annoying, especially when she first pops up. Wesley was much better as a bumbling Brit in season 1 and in Buffy, he got too depressing in Angel.

Funny, the 2 most stand out moments from Angel were when Faith pops up in season 1 and when Darla pops up in season 2. Both from the Buffy show.

F*CK OFF! Those were low points. The high points were everything from midway through Season 3 onwards, with the exception of Connor.

You F*CK OFF Filth, Season 4 sucked like a crack whore on a pipe with holes drilled in it.

Do you know I only just realised that Conner is Peter Campbell from MAD MEN? weird...

Um, calm down. Season 1 and 2 were the best seasons, the introduction of Connor was interesting but a little tedious.  But then again, you found Wesely to be the best thing about the show......a good indicator of your shit taste i think.

I'm shocked.  He will be missed.
He was one of my favorite characters on the show. I remember this time where he was battling some demon with angel and sings a really high note and the demon covers it's ears and such so he kicks him down. Funny stuff - makes me laugh out loud.
I think seasons 1, 2 and 5 were my most enjoyed seasons. I liked Wes when he was this goofy, naive fella but then he had to go all different in season 3.
It was a fairly good show here and there but I agree with G

Yes, we can all agree that season 1 & 2 were the better times for the series.

Hey, I was just f*cking around before, don't worry. But 'shit taste', b*tch please! I mean, how could you have seen Darla and Faith as highlights? Both those characters were annoying as hell, despite their moments of sexiness.

And when it comes to the series as a whole, I thought Season 1 was VERY weak, Season 2 better, but still not great.

However, from about midway through Season 3 until the end, I though the show was just brilliantly done (and Wesley was great in all incarnations of his character), and I've heard a lot of feedback from others who agree.

I don't know how anyone could think the first two seasons was the best. Most of the first season in particular was no better than Dollhouse has been so far, in my eyes. Too unstructured, hit n' miss, 'monster-of-the-week', lacking depth, etc.

Faith was one of the MOST layered characters in that ENTIRE series. She was DEFINITELY more than just a "sexy" character. Every character in the Buffyverse went through some sort of dark moment, but i don;t really think anyone got as dark as Faith did. Sure Willow tried to destroy the world, but that was all flashy villian stuff. Faith's inner struggle and what seemed like ENDLESS turmoil was TRULY amazingly written. The 2 parter she did in Angel was some of the best shit BOTH of those shows EVER had to offer, watching her at breaking point was BRILLIANT.

Darla was a little 2D in the Buffy series, but in Angel we really got to delve much deeper into her past and who she was/is. Her appearence turned the entire show upside down! and don;t even start me on how INCREDIBLE it was to have Drusila show up and turn her all over again halfway through the season. Absolutely mind blowing television.

I have NEVER in my LIFE EVER come across a person who described EITHER ONE of those characters as "not highlights", especially Faith. You have completely missed the boat on those 2 so much that i can;t even DESCRIBE how out of the loop you are on these tv shows.

Well CLEARLY they aren't AS common as you MAY think since NO ONE here agrees with you. And when you break it down, who are these "others" you speak of?.........people YOU associate with? are we supposed to get ANY sort of KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING and COMMON SENSE from THESE sorts of people? they're just more of YOU'S, a whole bunch of you's, a whole bunch of people with taste up their anuses.

The great thing about Angel season 1 was that it WASN'T so structured. The writers really got to focus in on developing the 3 characters and creating a really fun and memorable dynamic! Even when Wesley came in it was still great, there was such great chemistry between them all that you WANTED to see them have different adventures every week. That's what was so great about that season, it was all about the relationships. All Wesley did for the last 2 seaons was try and phuck Fred or mope around like a boring bitch.

"Lacking depth"? are you emotionally retarded?...........the death of Doyel, the breakdown of Faith and the 24 hours Buffy and Angel spent together with Angel as a human were some of the most memorable parts of the ENTIRE series. So don't give me any of this "lacking depth" SHIT.

Yes, your eyes, which CLEARLY have sight problems.

Now, why don't you go back into your bed room with your Wesley blow up doll and fuk it instead of drolling on in here about NOTHING.

Even with your usual tongue in cheek pissiness, this sounds like it's going beyond the norm and getting way too heated. Keep it civil, man.

I disagree about Faith and Darla's storylines being THAT great (though, on reflection i'll admit they were better than I give them credit for), and I think there were much more emotionally affecting moments in Buffy and Angel (the whole development of the Fred/Illyria/Wesley relationship, for instance, which I thought was BRILLIANCE).

And YES, MAN, I HAVE read several reviews and heard several people comment that Angel just got better as it went along and that the first two seasons were hit and miss in comparison to what came later.

I will admit that what the majority of people think doesn't really matter though, since it's all subjective, but you have played the same card as well so i've guess we're both 'phuckwits' then, hehe.

This is all bulls*t. Way too aggressive, for starters. Secondly, discarding my whole taste and those of the people I have read articles from or associated with because we disagree on this one little thing (unless of course, what you say is all meant to be in good fun), thirdly, assuming that if, what, four people disagree with me on here, that I must be making up that people elsewhere agree with me? But anyway, that doesn't really matter, anyhow, as I said before, so not much point going further with it. I wasn't making sh*t up though, and damn you if you think I was.

quote:

Pfft, now I think that YOU'VE missed the boat, or out of the loop or whatever the f*ck you want to call it. Ah, well, isn't it a good thing if different people cherish different aspects of their TV shows?

Screw this whole 'right and wrong' business, and screw this idea of hurling insults until someone else agrees with you. F*ck that conformity sh*t, there'd be plenty of people who agree with both of us, and it doesn't make either of our opinions any better or worse.

quote:

All good moments, but inferior in both quality and quantity to what the writers conjured up in later seasons, is all I think. F*ck the death of Doyle, I thought that Cordelia, Fred and Wesley's deaths were all FAR more emotionally taxing to watch, and many other moments registered as having much more depth to me.

quote:

Now, why don't you go back into your bed room with your Wesley blow up doll and fuk it instead of drolling on in here about NOTHING.

I will, but first you've gotta throw this bullsh*t idea away that disagreeing with you equates to talking about nothing and also stop having such a tantrum. This sh*t's just ridiculous. I mean, really, do you really CARE about this disagreement to the point where you've gotta get like this. In the end, really, WHO GIVES A F*CK? I don't see the point in getting that riled up unless my opinion has been outright insulted, rather than questioned, and I did not do that to you.

I can see the validity of questioning my opinion, or maybe some healthy debate, but this royal smackdown sh*t seems wholly unjustified in this case, and gives me the impression that you might even lose some sleep over the HEINOUS SINS that i've committed here.

______________________________________

PS:

But, re-reading my post, I see what's going to happen here, you've gotten heated and said stuff which annoyed me, this in turn has caused me to say things to provoke you in my heated state, and the whole damn thing is probably just going to go on until we reach some sort of conlusion to the whole debacle. Let's just end this, seriously, even if the best conclusion that we can come to is that the other is a 'phuckwit' for what he has said.

And just so you know, I still think you're a cool bastard, even if your assertion of me being a 'phuckwit' sticks after this ends. I think you've acted the fool for the immaturity of being so downright aggressive and insulting without being provoked, but who doesn't be a silly billy sometimes? I say we have a hug, go have sex with our Faith and Wesley plush dolls then have a slice of pie.
