Here's a thread for anyone who enjoyed the Max Payne series in any way, shape or form.
Whether you liked the music, the intense action gameplyay or the way the story was told through a nicely done graphic novel tracking the adventure of a poor cop Max Payne who lost everything in the span of five minutes.
The gritty, urban and underworld life is realistic and violent and an environment that brings emotional depth to the overall backstory and the use of a certain mythology!
The series is awesome!

I know very little about the two games but I'm looking forward to Allan Wake which is made by the same guys.  Has the series aged well?  Is it worth playing now?

For some reason, I quite vividly remember the Penny Arcade comic that poked fun at the writing for the game.

EDIT:  Here it is.

Yeah they've aged fairly well by my standards anyways. Max Payne was a big hit when it first came out and even though it borrowed the bullet-time from The Matrix, it was still a great game. The story just draws you into the environment in a slight non-linear form and follows Max Payne through the seediest hotels and areas with some great references along the way, including a nice reference to John Woo and of course, the old film noir films of the '40's.
Max Payne 2 had more of a violent, foul-mouthed edge to it and didn't sell quite as many copies as it's predecessor but it still managed to be a decent sequel and I don't have to remind how hard that can be! Max Payne 2 is a fairly solid sequel, tying in the characters from Max Payne into the expanding backstory which soon becomes a gritty noir love story! It's well worth the check out!
There's been rumours of a Max Payne 3 but nothing big has surfaced just yet.
Oh and they're making a film adaptation of Max Payne but I'm having my hesitations about it incase they destroy the whole story and feel to the game. They would have to study the source material pretty hard!!

I remember there was an infamously difficult part to one of the games where you are halucinating and have to perform a balancing act or something?

I wish there was more noir-styled games.  I'm looking forward to Hotel Dusk on the DS and the Rockstar Noir game on PS2...

Yeah He has nightmares and hallcuniates and the "balancing act" is just him trying to find where the sobs of his dead wife are coming from while walking on a thin red line. That can be a bitch really.
